Welcome to
She Walks Dogs

She Walks Dogs is a locally owned and operated dog walking business in Okotoks, Alberta. I believe every dog deserves a happy and active lifestyle, and I aim to make that possible through my on-leash dog walks. Not every dog is cut out for the dog park, and not every owner wants their dog(s) there.

I am committed to providing quality walks and safe, on-leash exercise for your canine family members.

Services

Half-Hour Dog Walks

Short, sweet and to the point my half hour+ walks take your pet(s) around their own neighbourhood for some air. It's the perfect amount of time for smaller breeds and older or lower energy dogs who need an outing, but don't want to overdo it.

60-Minute Dog Walks

Extended 60-minute walks are for active dogs in the prime of their lives. Okotoks has more than 100kms of pathways and trails and I'm here to explore them all.  My hour-long walks take us all over town, from the quiet trails along the Sheep River through residential neighbourhoods and back.

Puppy & Senior Dog Potty Breaks

Young and old dogs have very similar needs. They can't walk too far or too fast and they need to use the facilities fairly often. Neither stage lasts forever, but it is vital to your dog's wellbeing that they are let out frequently during puppyhood and into their senior years. Let me fill in the gaps for you by visiting your dog(s) and making sure they are comfortable.

Meet Veronica

If I had a dollar for every time someone commented you've got your hands full when I'm out walking my dogs, well, I wouldn't need to walk dogs for a living.

But, I love walking dogs – my own and other people's.

I have 25+ years of experience training and competing with my own dogs as well as time spent assisting other trainers. I'm ready to share what I know and help keep your dog(s) fit, both mentally and physically.

There has not been a time since I turned 18 that I didn't have a least one dog at my heel. When I'm invited places, my first thought honestly is, "can I bring my dogs?"

Let me help you have the well-exercised and happy dog you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you serve?

I provide on-leash dog walking services in Okotoks, Alberta.

Do you offer group walks or only individual walks?

I specialize in individual walks for dogs within the same household to provide personalized attention to each dog. This allows me to tailor the walk to the specific needs of your animal(s). I can merge packs, but that depends on the dogs involved.

How do you ensure the safety of the dogs during walks?

Safety is my top priority during walks. I keep all dogs on-leash and use proper walking equipment to ensure control and security. I have experience in handling dogs of all sizes and temperaments. I also have pet first aid through the Red Cross.

How does it all work?

I will schedule a meeting at your home to get to know both you and your dog(s). I'll assess your animal(s) and we can choose the duration and frequency of my dog walks.

How do you feel about using treats?

Treats are a great aid in training. Rewarding good behaviour with treats can help solidify in the dog's mind exactly what is expected of them. I will not give your dog(s) treats without your permission. I will check with you to make certain the treats I provide are suitable for your pet(s).

Do you have dog training certificates?

I have years of training experience, but I have not taken any formal or certified training.

What if my dog gets hurt or sick while in your care?

Should your pet become injured or ill while in my care, I will take them to the nearest veterinary clinic for treatment. I hold a pet first aid certificate through the Red Cross and have basic knowledge for first aid in emergencies.

Once your dog is checked in at the vet, you will be contacted. I will not authorize charges on your behalf.

How do you keep my information safe?

I've gone old-school with my record keeping. While your name, phone number, email and the name of your dog(s) are saved electronically, your address and any door codes or access information is stored offline.

What training methods do you use?

I'm old enough to have experienced the tail-end of common aversive training techniques. Today, the dog training industry is mostly based on positive reinforcement. I have seen and sampled most training methods out there. I've found a combination of corrections paired with positive reinforcement (treats, praise) work best for most dogs. As long as brutal physical punishiment is not included in your dog's training, I am happy to support the methods and techniques you use. I can also offer advice on what has worked for me and my dogs.

Do you train dogs?

I train mine and am happy to talk about what I think could work for you and your dog(s). Spending time walking with any dog and they start to pick up on what is being asked of them.

Where can I see photos of my dog(s) on a walk?

With my clients' permission, I post photos and videos of my walks with dogs on Instagram.

What if it's too hot or too cold for a walk?

For many dogs, too cold isn't an issue, but too hot certainly is. I work around this by starting earlier in the day during hot weather and try to walk around midday during cold snaps.
